2012 has been an innovative year for television. Some of the new high quality, emotionally compelling storylines that Television producers and writers are choosing to release are better than most Films these days. Especially with production companies like HBO, Starz, FX, Showtime and AMC at the helm.

All the universes on this list portray an honest and entertaining look into the Human experience and have drastically changed the face of what is possible with the medium.

10. Magic City (produced by: Starz) Starring: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko

Synopsis: Set in 1959 Miami, Florida shortly after the Cuban Revolution, Magic City tells the story of the owner of Miami’s most glamorous hotel, the Miramar Playa’s rise to fame after the owner is forced to make an ill-fated deal with a Miami mob boss to ensure the success of his glitzy new establishment. “

09. The Walking Dead (produced by: AMC) Starring: Andrew Lincoln, David Morrissey

Synopsis: ” After a sheriff’s deputy wakes from a coma, he finds the world dominated by flesh-eating “walkers”, resembling the zombies of George A. Romero’s horror movies. He sets out to find his family and encounters many other survivors along the way. “

08. American Horror Story: Asylum (produced by: FX) Starring: Zachary Quinto, Chloe Sevigny, Evan Peters, Adam Levine, Jessica Lange

Synopsis:  Takes place in 1964 at the Briarcliff Mental Institution and follows the stories of the insane patients, doctors and nuns who occupy it. Destined to escape, the patients begin to band together to reveal the dark secrets the Asylum contains. “

07. Fringe (produced by: FOX) Starring: Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Anna Torv, Lance Reddick

06. Breaking Bad (produced by: AMC) Starring: Bryan Cranston

Synopsis: After a struggling high school chemistry teacher is diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer, he turns to a life of crime and drugs with the aim of securing his family’s financial future before he dies. “

05. The Newsroom (produced by: HBO) Starring: Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer

Synopsis: " About a News Anchor who, together with his staff, set out to put on a news show that not only tells the truth, but stands up to Politicians and their Donors in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements. “

04. Boss (produced by: Starz) Starring: Kelsey Grammer, Sanaa Lathan, Jonathan Groff

Synopsis: ” Follows the mayor of Chicago as he desperately tries to maintain his credibility and psyche, after being diagnosed with Lewy bodies (extreme dementia). As this secret begins to affect the entire city, the Mayor must reestablish his friends from his enemies. “

03. Mad Men (produced by: AMC) Starring: Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks

Synopsis:  " Colleagues at an acclaimed advertising company discover it is "every man for himself" in their personal and professional lives, as they face painful new beginnings. "

02. Game of Thrones (produced by: HBO)  Starring: Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Sean Bean

Synopsis: " As Seven Kingdoms are plagued by War & Death, Men and Women across the land begin to discover that the dark folklore their Elders have been preaching just might be true "

01. Boardwalk Empire (produced by: HBO) Starring: Steve Buscemi, Michael Shannon, Bobby Cannavale

Synopsis: " During the Prohibition of Alcohol in 1920s America, a Significant political figure rises to prominence along with his criminal network including Al Capone and Lucky Luciano. As the politician delves deeper into the madness of being a gangster, his Family and his Sanity begin to change for the Worse.  ”


Check as many of these shows out as you can. You will surely not be disappointed. Also for Psychedelia fans, LSD plays a role in a couple of them including Fringe, Mad Men, etc., watch them all to find out!
